Walking Tour to Hokkaido University

Akarenga to Hokkaido University Walking Tour

Start your journey at the historic Akarenga (Former Hokkaido Government Office), an iconic red brick building symbolizing Hokkaido’s pioneering spirit. Take a moment to admire its Neo-Baroque architecture, charming garden, and the clock tower that has stood as a silent witness to Sapporo’s history.

From Akarenga, stroll along tree-lined streets and small local alleys, noticing a mix of modern and historical architecture along the way. You’ll pass landmarks reflecting the city’s blend of Japanese tradition and western influence, making the walk as much about discovery as about movement.

Your route then leads to Hokkaido University, renowned for its expansive campus, seasonal beauty, and rich academic heritage. Wander through the lush ginkgo-lined avenues, soak in the calm of Ono Pond, and perhaps spot the Furukawa Hall or other historic campus structures. This walk combines history, culture, and nature, offering both scenic views and a peek into Sapporo’s academic life.
