Walking Tour to the landmarks of Sapporo City

Sapporo Downtown Walking Tour: Akarenga to Susukino

Begin your tour at the Akarenga (Former Hokkaido Government Office), the striking red brick building that stands as a symbol of Hokkaido’s pioneering history. Admire its Neo-Baroque architecture and charming gardens before heading east into the heart of Sapporo.

Your next stop is the Sapporo Clock Tower, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Learn about its origins as a drill hall for the Sapporo Agricultural College and snap a few classic photos of this emblem of the city.

Continue toward Odori Park, the green oasis stretching through downtown Sapporo. Along the way, you’ll see Sapporo TV Tower, standing tall at the eastern end of the park. Take in panoramic views of the city from the observation deck and enjoy the seasonal flower displays below.

Next, visit the Nijo Fish Market, a lively spot where locals and tourists alike gather to sample fresh seafood and shop for Hokkaido specialties. Immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere and perhaps try a quick bite of sushi or seafood donburi.

From the market, stroll to Tanuki Koji Shopping Street, a covered arcade lined with shops, restaurants, and souvenirs. This vibrant street gives a glimpse of Sapporo’s local culture and commercial life.

Finally, conclude your walking tour at the Susukino intersection, Sapporo’s famous entertainment district, known for neon lights, nightlife, and unique eateries. Here, the energy of the city comes alive, offering a lively end to your downtown exploration.
